I remember when I was a young kid and watched the video for
Only Time Will Tell. I remember liking it a lot, but having no idea who sang it. Fast forward two years or so, and I heard
Emerson, Lake and Palmer for the first time. I was pretty amazed at their instrumental prowess! Some time later I found out that Palmer was in this "super group" called
Asia (I knew
ELP hadn't been around for a few years), so I got the
self-titled LP from the used record store when I was able to do so. I put it on the turntable when I got home hoping to hear more Karn Evil 9 type music and was kind of disappointed when AOR came out of my headphones. It was a good, catchy song nevertheless (
Heat Of The Moment), but I was hoping for the ultra-progressive stuff. Then the next song played. it was
Only Time Will Tell and I immediately recognized it as that song whose video I saw a few years back and that I loved! I was pretty happy and I guess that sentimental trip down memory lane (I was like 13-14! LOL!) made me like the album very much.
One thing that always made me think "that's too bad" is that I was never able to see the original lineup in concert. I wouldn't have minded seeing the Greg Lake-led version, but 1) I was too young even for that, and 2) I think they only did a few shows in Japan. Anyway, since I've been pretty out of the loop with concerts, I missed a chance to see them in the 25th anniversary tour (my understanding is that they played the whole first album in order at the San Francisco show), but I got the DVD
Fantasia Live In Tokyo, which looks like a pretty good representation of their live show, so I'm happy. I would still like at some point to see Steve Howe in concert.
I got the first album on CD a while back, but an opportunity to get this target CD cheap came about recently, so I took it. It's a nice disc made in West Germany. How about those targets! :) Oh! and for a change, the source for target CD information I use says this one is sort of hard to find now!

Mines a target CD which is made in Japan, which looks a little different. I even had most of the band sign it!
